More Coming to REDICO'S "Village at Bloomfield", Bl. Twp.

Hi All,
Meetings of the Joint Development Council (JDC) overseeing the REDICO property development plans on Telegraph Rd. north of Square Lake have been very hit and miss.  The next meeting is scheduled for WEDNESDAY, May 16, 2018  @ 10 am  at the Bloomfield Township Hall.

Reportedly, on a yet to be posted agenda, is a site plan review for an ALDI grocery store to be discussed on May 16.
    From the ALDI website :
We have our own unique style when it comes to grocery shopping. And being unique has helped make us one of the fastest growing retailers in the US.

High-quality products at impossibly low prices are available at ALDI stores across the U.S. now! We’re already in two-thirds of the country, with plans to have nearly 2,000 stores from coast to coast by 2018. Check below to see if ALDI is coming to a neighborhood near you.

I checked the link to see if a Michigan new store was mentioned in Bloomfield Township.  It was not.  Perhaps too preliminary.

ALSO:   FYI:

Today I read on CRAIN's Detroit Business an article about Henry Ford Health System  coming to The Village at Bloomfield by 2019.  Really?   Nothing so far shown on the JDC meeting schedules.

Crain's   described the project as an outpatient medical facility of 38,000 sq. ft.  on two levels.

Hampton Inn and Suites /Villages at Bloomfield

Hi All,
The Joint Development Council (JDC)  met 11/29/17 @ 2 pm @  Township Hall.   On the agenda was a site plan review for the Hampton Inn and Suites located in the City of Pontiac portion of the Villages at Bloomfield.   The project was approved.  It will be a 4 story building with 101 rooms.   Some of the special amenities include 30 % of the rooms as suites, a hot breakfast included, swimming pool, exercise room, business room and a conference area for up to 75 people.    The building location is in the NE section of the Villages at Bloomfield  adjacent to the wetland area.  Perhaps there will be many suites with a great view.   Parking for 104 spaces,  all conveniently surrounding the hotel.   No need to use the large parking structure that is remaining nearby.

JDC chairman, Dennis Cowen,  recused himself from the discussion and the vote for a conflict of interest reason.  Supervisor Savoie of Bloomfield Township assumed the temporary role of chairperson.   Mayor Waterman of the City of Pontiac asked the owners and representatives for the Hampton Inn and Suites many questions and basically welcomed them to Pontiac.  Public Comment was permitted.

Mr. Chris Abbo, VP of Construction and Operations for Namou Hotel Group met with me after the meeting.  He was very gracious and excited to get the project started.  The Hotel Group shared some large scale "boards"/ designs and plans  of the project to a group of people after the meeting.  This will be an upscale project to make both the City of Pontiac and Bloomfield Township proud.

REDICO  was asked to give an update on the project in general.  Demolition is nearing completion.  Infrastructure underground is proceeding.   Most of the current work is concentrated in the areas where Mendards and the Hampton Inn will be locating  to allow a timely construction start.      Menards has been slow to present site plans however, REDICO expects the previous statements for a spring start.   Hampton Inn and Suites may be a summer start.   Edward Rose, the company doing the apartments may be submitting plans soon to the JDC.  REDICO  also mentioned that they may be presenting plans for other projects that they are developing.

Here is the BOARD PACKET that adds more information to the project.   It is 30 pages long.

REDICO submits site plans for a MENARDS and Public Hearing for Brownfield approval from OC Commissioners

Hi All,
2 meetings:  please see dates, times and locations
Both concerning the development known as The Village at Bloomfield

WEDNESDAY, JAN. 25 @ 10 AM  in Bloomfield Township :

Joint Development Council meeting with the City of Pontiac, Mayor Waterman, Bloomfield Township, Supervisor Savoie and Dennis Cowen, neutral member concerning the property to be developed:  The Village at Bloomfield located on Telegraph Rd. north of Square Lake

Meeting location:

Two things are important at this meeting:

     1.  The minutes from December 21, 2016  are about the 4 AMENDMENTS to the 2002 Development Agreement that the JDC approved at that meeting, but no actual language of the amendments were seen or read at that meeting.  Therefore, it will be very interesting to read the minutes of what the writer of the minutes believed was actually approved.  The township has not posted a board packet for the 12/21/16 or the 1/25/17 meeting.

     2.  The actual agenda item is REDICO submitting a site plan review to the JDC for a MENARDS at the project on Telegraph Road known as The Village at Bloomfield.  Since the 425 Agreement for this 85 acre parcel of land, both Bloomfield Township and the City of Pontiac have joint responsibility for the development.  However, since the Menards building will be actually located in Pontiac,  the Town Center ordinances from Pontiac will be used.  It was reported months ago that REDICO will be requesting variances with this site plan review.  No word as to what those variances will be.  Will the site plan be approved?  Will the variances requested be approved?  Do these decisions need to go before the Pontiac City Council?

FYI:

  • Please note that the 2016 Development Agreement is completely different and separate from the 2002 Development Agreement.
